Search Tips for the Trade Union Education West Website
How to Use the Search Box
The search facility works on the basis of keywords and phrases typed into the empty box. To use this facility effectively, use the following simple guidelines:-
1. If you what you are looking for can be easily summed up in a single word e.g. women, then just type the word into the box and click on the Search button.
2. If, as is more common, you want to use several words together to make up a search phrase, then type your phrase:
then click on the Search button. Placing the words inside inverted commas or linking them with a + sign will ensure that the search only picks up references containing the complete phrase which you typed in. For example, if you typed in union and learning without using the inverted commas or the + sign, the search would pick up every reference to union and every reference to learning, which would give you much more than you wanted.
How to Use the Search Results
The results of your search will be presented much like the results of a full Internet search carried out by a search engine. Each page on the site which contains the phrase will be listed, with those which contain the phrase in the page title listed highest (see below).
To go the page, simply click on the blue underlined title text. You will also see the phrase you entered in the Search box highlighted in extracts from the text on the particular page whose title is in blue underlined text. This will help you to decide which page(s) you want to see.
If the search produces no matching results, or does not produce the results you were hoping for, you can enter another search word or phrase at the top of the results page, without having to return to the Home Page.
